Georgia Clay

Josh Kelley has been making albums since 2003. His music has been featured in movies starring his wife, actress Katherine Heigl. His song “Tidal Wave” was in the film ‘Life As We Know It’, and “Under the Covers” in the film ‘The Ugly Truth’. His younger brother, Charles, is a member of the chart topping Country trio ‘Lady Antebellum’.
This album ‘Georgia Clay’ is a collection of songs that serve as a musical interpretation of his life story. Josh wrote or co-wrote all of the album’s eleven songs.
The song “Georgia Clay” is looking back on the carefree days of his youth. He reminisces about the fun he had with his friends, the nights he would drive in his pick up truck down a rough dirt road and splatter his tyres with Georgia clay. He recalls stealing a kiss from the girl beside him on the tailgate. He still has that old truck, it hasn’t been driven for years but it still has Georgia clay on the tyres. This song is currently in the top 40 Country singles charts.
“A Real Good Try” is a slow ballad, suits his voice so well. He is working hard trying to be everything she wants him to be. When he feels like giving up it’s reassuring to know she is always by his side. Gary Morse enhances this song with steel guitar.
“Gone Like That”. She is so beautiful, why did he have to run into her again? He knows he cannot risk being hurt a second time, so he walks away from heartbreak.
“Naleigh Moon” is dedicated to his daughter. Josh and his wife adopted Naleigh from South Korea when she was ten months old. The song tells how she has changed his life.
“Half way around my little world / You had no idea that you were my girl / You found my arms not a moment too soon / I couldn’t see past me till I saw you / My sweet Naleigh Moon /”
“Rainin’ Whiskey” On a much lighter note, a lively ‘lets get the party started song’. He could have a quiet night, go to bed early, but instead he is going to let off a little steam. It proves to be a great party for drowning his sorrows….it’s raining whisky!
“Learning You”. Bluesy, romantic, it will appeal to the ladies. Sung with emotion, it shows Josh’s vocal range, which is complimented by the delicate musical backing.
“Great Idea”. Another song where he is reminiscing about his courting days. He would call for her in his old Chevette, with Springsteen on the radio. “I can see your bedroom window now / Easing up and you sneaking out / Scared to death of your old man / If he’d caught us we would both be dead /” They would drive to the river bank in the moonlight. …the moon saw everything! It was young love that stood the test of time.
An excellent album. Josh has the vocal ability to sing any style of Country song. I do hope we hear a lot more of him.
